Titled "The Island of Fate," this flashback sets the God Valley stage as Shakuyaku is made the Native Hunting Competition's prize, Rocks confesses his Davy lineage to Harald, and young Teach is revealed as the most prized target.
Hachinosu falls into chaos when Shakky is abducted and the guarding Marlon is found dead, the culprit secretly being Ochoku, who sold her off for a hefty reward. News of the kidnapping races across the seas, and an enraged Roger vows to kill Rocks for allowing it. Thirty-eight years before the present, Garling returns to God Valley and meets his twin sons, but tells their mother the island will soon vanish and that he has already arranged a more fitting wife. When she fails to understand, he cuts her down and orders the Marines to invade, launching the Native Hunting Competition.
Among the cadets is a young Monkey D. Dragon, who questions the operation but is told to obey and follow orders, reassuring himself that tranquilizers will keep the harm minimal. The captive slaves leak word of the event to a young Morgans, whose story tells Hachinosu that Shakky will be the contest's grand prize, enraging the Rocks Pirates while Linlin eyes the Devil Fruits among the rewards. Both the Rocks and Roger crews mobilize, with Garp soon learning Roger is bound for the island. En route, Harald is sent to intercept Rocks, who asks to speak privately and confides his deepest secret: his true name is Davy D. Xebec.
Rocks explains he descends from the legendary Davy D. Jones, a bloodline the World Government has labored to erase, which is why he has survived only by hiding in the Underworld. He admits he sent his wife and infant son to their home of God Valley for safety and that this, unknown to his crew, is his real reason for going. Harald refuses to help, and after a brief clash Rocks escapes. At the competition, Shakky is unveiled as the top prize, sought by World Nobles including a young Sommers and Garling, while Dragon finds the twins' dying mother. Teach is announced as the most valuable target, the first Davy Family member captured in eight hundred years.
