Appearance

Squat yet imposing, Marlon was defined above all by a jutting, squared-off jaw. Squinty eyes, teal hair, full lips, and a scratchy mustache filled out the rest of his face. He dressed the part of a don in a dark suit and matching overcoat, a pale tie, and a shadowy fedora, usually with a cigar clamped between his lips.

Personality

A stern, brooding sort, he held himself apart from the rowdy feasting of his shipmates, wearing a permanent scowl. The single crack in that armor was Shakky: the instant he laid eyes on her he, like every man aboard, fell head over heels and bent to her every wish.

History

Sought out personally by Rocks D. Xebec more than four decades ago, Marlon had already built a reputation as a crime lord before turning pirate, though his loss to Rocks in their Davy Back Fight marked him as the lesser hand. He followed the crew to Elbaph in a failed bid to recruit Harald, then later watched Xebec lay out his grand scheme to topple the World Government. Skilled with a rifle, he took part in the raid on Foot Colony, gunning down the temple's inhabitants before Newgate's quake nearly sank the island and freed the trapped crew. Years afterward, when the former Kuja captain Shakuyaku settled on Hachinosu, Marlon doted on her without question. While standing guard one night, he and several others were murdered by an unidentified intruder who also seized Shakuyaku; his body, discovered the next morning, set off a great panic. His failure to protect her helped lead to the crew's near-annihilation at the God Valley Incident a year later.
