Appearance

Standing barely over a meter tall, Amazon is a wizened old woman whose face carries deep folds of wrinkles. Purple hair sits atop her head tied into a pair of buns, her arms are spindly, and a pink tunic covers her frame. Like every native of her sky home, a set of tiny white wings sprouts from her back.

By the time two years have passed, she lets a portion of her hair fall loose rather than bundling all of it, and she has taken to wearing lipstick.

Personality

Amazon carries herself with an almost total lack of concern for events around her. She freely admits to the Straw Hats that fighting is not her trade, so anyone declining the toll is simply let through without resistance. Even a sudden crush of terrified people fleeing toward the lower seas fails to crack her composure. Yet that detachment has a sly edge: while she answers questions put to her, she pointedly omits the things that matter most, such as how the local currency known as Extol works and what awaits those who skip payment.

History

When Luffy's crew first reached the clouds, they found Heaven's Gate guarded by Amazon, who snapped a portrait of each of them using a Vision Dial. Taken aback by her wrinkled features, the pirates briefly assumed she was an angel. She laid out the rules for entering Skypiea and named a staggering toll of one billion Extol, the equivalent of one hundred thousand Belly, for every visitor. Once they confessed they could not afford it, she allowed them in anyway, never warning that doing so would brand them as outlaws.

The mass panic that followed, as Angel Island's people scrambled to escape to the seas below, briefly overwhelmed her, since the gate had never seen such crowds. She eventually boarded the evacuation boats and looked on as Skypiea suffered further ruin. Once Enel was beaten, she joined the festivities and shared a dance with Nami. Two years afterward, she had taken up a quieter job selling admission tickets at the newly opened Wagomuland park.
