The Fifth Division, sometimes called the Special Battle Division, was one of the battalions of the Allied Shinobi Forces raised for the Fourth Shinobi World War and placed under the samurai leader Mifune.
Formed as the alliance braced for the Fourth Shinobi World War, the Fifth Division was a battalion of the Allied Shinobi Forces answering to Mifune, the head of the Land of Iron. It also went by the name Special Battle Division. Its makeup set it apart from the other units, since it drew heavily on samurai rather than ninja alone. By Shikamaru Nara's account in the anime, the shinobi within it tended to be experts in hiden ninjutsu or aggressive tactics, positioning them to reinforce any allied unit that found itself outmatched.
Once assembled, the division spread itself out across the full stretch of the Land of Lightning's peninsula. The plan was flexible: whenever another division called for aid, the closest section of the Fifth was ordered forward to bolster it. Acting on that mandate, a party of Shino Aburame, Hana and Kiba Inuzuka with their ninken linked up with the Second Division to wipe out a subterranean pocket of the White Zetsu Army, while a separate group that included Ino Yamanaka joined elements of the Second and Fourth Divisions to shore up the beleaguered First Division.
Mifune personally led a contingent of his samurai to relieve the Surprise Attack Division, arriving just in time to keep a reincarnated Hanzō from cutting down Kankurō. While part of the group tended to Kankurō and his wounded and others took on Chiyo and Kimimaro, Mifune turned his attention to Hanzō. He first disabled the poison-spewing Ibuse, then bested Hanzō, whose resolve to end himself by seppuku gave the Sealing Team the opening to bind him. One of Naruto's shadow clones later reached the division to help finish off Kimimaro and Chiyo, both of whom remarked on how far Naruto had come. Having cleared out the reincarnated fighters, the division was ordered to back up Naruto and Killer B, and it eventually converged with the wider Allied Shinobi Forces to stand against the Ten-Tails commanded by Madara and Obito Uchiha.

Unlike the other battalions of the Allied Shinobi Forces, the Fifth Division drew heavily on samurai rather than ninja alone. Shikamaru Nara noted its shinobi tended to specialize in hiden ninjutsu or aggressive tactics, letting the division reinforce any allied unit that found itself outmatched.
Mifune arrived with his samurai just in time to stop a reincarnated Hanzō from killing Kankurō. He disabled Hanzō's poison spewing summon Ibuse and defeated Hanzō, whose choice to attempt seppuku let the Sealing Team bind him.
The Fifth Division spread across the Land of Lightning's peninsula and sent its closest sections to reinforce whichever division needed help. Its members helped the Second Division wipe out a White Zetsu pocket and joined the Second and Fourth Divisions to shore up the struggling First Division.
