Tsunade is a granddaughter of the First Hokage, one of Konoha's three legendary Sannin, and the woman the world calls its strongest kunoichi and finest medical ninja. Grief drives her from the village for years, until a young Naruto rekindles her faith and she takes up the mantle of Fifth Hokage.
Fair-skinned and brown-eyed, Tsunade wears her straight blonde hair parted above the forehead, with shoulder-length bangs framing her face and the length falling to her lower back, usually gathered into two loose tails. A violet diamond, the Strength of a Hundred Seal, sits plainly on her brow. Though she is in her fifties and, without her jutsu, appears wrinkled and frail, she keeps a youthful, curvaceous look through a Transformation Technique she maintains almost effortlessly, even while asleep or injured. Her signature outfit pairs a grass-green haori, the kanji for gamble stitched inside a red circle on the back, with a sleeveless grey blouse fastened low by a broad obi, dark trousers, and heeled black sandals.
For as long as her little brother Nawaki and her love Dan were alive, Tsunade believed in dreams and in helping others reach them. Their violent deaths shattered that belief and left her bitter, especially toward anyone chasing the office of Hokage, a title she came to call a fool's job after it claimed so many she admired. Meeting Naruto forces her to reconsider, since he proves that a supposedly impossible goal can be reached and that a dreamer's death need not kill the dream itself.
Blunt, short-tempered, and famously fond of drinking and gambling, she has notoriously terrible luck at the tables, earning the mocking nickname of the Legendary Sucker. Her bonds with the other Sannin run deep and tangled: she never returns Jiraiya's affection yet mourns him fiercely, and she stays permanently wary of Orochimaru, even as her buried wish remains simply to be among her lost loved ones again.
Descended from Hashirama Senju and Mito Uzumaki, she trained under Hiruzen Sarutobi alongside Jiraiya and Orochimaru, the trio later dubbed the Sannin by Hanzo after they survived him in battle. She lost Nawaki and then Dan to war, and the trauma of Dan's death left her unable to bear the sight of blood; she abandoned Konoha with Dan's niece Shizune and wandered for years afterward.
Eventually Jiraiya and Naruto seek her out to offer her the seat of Fifth Hokage just as Orochimaru tempts her with the promise of reviving her dead. Naruto's spirit wins her over, she rejects Orochimaru's bargain, conquers her fear of blood to shield the boy, and accepts the Hokage's hat. As leader she takes Sakura Haruno as a student, mends injuries no other medic will touch, and draws on monstrous physical strength, the self-healing might of Creation Rebirth, and her slug summon Katsuyu.
When Pain levels Konoha, she pours her chakra into Katsuyu to protect the villagers and collapses into a coma. Recovering, she helps steer the Allied Shinobi Forces through the Fourth Shinobi World War, unleashing her Strength of a Hundred to strike Madara Uchiha and surviving being cut in two. Once the war ends, she crafts prosthetic arms for Naruto and Sasuke.

We ranked the six most popular women of Naruto from worst to first, and our number one is going to start a fight. The official poll got it wrong....

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....
Tsunade is not romantically in love with Naruto; her bond with him is closer to mentor and family, since his refusal to give up on his dream restores the faith in dreams she lost after her brother Nawaki and her love Dan both died in war.
Tsunade is in her fifties, though she uses a Transformation Technique to keep a youthful, curvaceous appearance, appearing wrinkled and frail only when the jutsu is not active.
Tsunade became the Fifth Hokage after Jiraiya and Naruto sought her out to offer her the position; Naruto's determination and refusal to abandon his dream won her over and renewed her belief that dreams do not have to die with the dreamer.
Jiraiya and Tsunade are not married; they trained together under Hiruzen Sarutobi as two of the three legendary Sannin, and while Jiraiya cared for her, Tsunade never returned his romantic affection.
Tsunade's power rests on the self-healing Creation Rebirth, the Strength of a Hundred Seal, monstrous physical strength, and her slug summon Katsuyu, all backing her reputation as the world's finest medical ninja.
