Appearance

Age has left Sanzui a gaunt figure with deeply lined skin, his hair cropped short and gone grey. A slender moustache and a modest goatee frame his mouth. For dress he favours a black jacket trimmed in gold, with matching epaulettes at the shoulders, trousers finished with gold along the cuffs, and a polished pair of boots.

Personality

Sanzui's attachment to his homeland runs deep. He has invested heavily in building new power stations, convinced that such work will leave a stronger country for the generations to come, and he reminds his son Awaji that the whole of it will one day pass to him. That devotion carries a harder edge. When the Funato clan cost him his son, Sanzui turned unforgiving, insisting that Kirigakure hand down the severest of penalties.

History

During the School Trip Arc, Mei Terumi uncovered evidence that Sanzui had been quietly bargaining with the Land of Waves. He and the other conspirators were taken into custody and confessed to their dealings. Later, in the Great Sea Battle of Kirigakure, he addressed the crowd at the unveiling of the Shinonome 1 power station, promising that it would lift the country's energy output while calming its violent seas. His son Awaji then boarded the maiden airship bound for the platform, and Sanzui watched in horror as it went down in flames. Grief-stricken, he begged the Sixth Mizukage to strike back and wipe out the Funato. Once the war ended, he pressed Kirigakure to deal out heavy punishment, singling out the clan's commanders Araumi and Ikada.
