Appearance

The commander wears a white cloak over black trousers, with bandaging wrapped around his right leg, plus arm-guards, gloves, and black sandals. His hair is brown and spiky, and his mask takes a monkey motif, complete with pointed ears, sculpted brows, and three thick stripes, one on the forehead and one down each cheek; some depictions add a line crossing the right side of the mask toward the eye hole.

Abilities

Leading the Anbu, a unit drawn from some of Konoha's most capable shinobi, points to considerable strength of his own. He is notably perceptive, gauging that Pain's chakra had to be enormous and that a single will was steering the bodies laying waste to the village. The sword he carries suggests a grounding in kenjutsu.

History

He and a fellow Anbu escorted the Third Hokage into a hidden bunker to uncover who was behind the village's vanishing shinobi. Once they had cleared the traps, the culprit proved to be Orochimaru, who lashed out with a sound-based attack that let the Sannin slip away and flee the Land of Fire.

When Pain struck at Konoha, the commander relayed the analysis team's estimate of three enemy battalions to Tsunade and, on her orders, posted squads to guard Shizune and the interrogators. He went with Shizune, Inoichi, and Ino as they split off to unravel Pain's secret, but the Human Path slipped past his guard, seized Shizune, drained her for information, and killed her; he afterward helped carry her body back to Shikaku and the others. Following the clash between Naruto and Pain, he brought word of the emergency meeting. Later he was among five villagers called before the Fire Daimyō to weigh Konoha's recovery, and with Tsunade comatose and Danzō pushing to name a new Hokage, he was stunned to hear the Daimyō appoint Danzō to the post.
