Appearance

Linie takes the form of a small, young-looking girl, her pink hair parted into a fringe above two thick twintails that fall to her chin, each bound with a black ribbon, and her eyes a clear purple; a little pair of horns juts out behind each tail. Her clothing channels gothic Lolita style, a puff-sleeved white blouse under a dark brown dress whose frilled, front-opening skirt reveals white ruffles beneath, cinched by a brown corset and matched with brown ballet flats laced up the legs to the knee. A brown ribbon circles her collar, and her stockings are red striped with brown. Roughly eighty years earlier she looked younger still, her hair worn straight and her dress a plainer long-sleeved piece with black shoes.

Personality

As a demon, Linie has no grasp of human feeling. She stays obediently loyal to Lügner and Aura alike, seldom speaking or stepping out of line except when threatened, a restraint her colleague Draht lacks. Sure of her own power, she shares her kind's blind spot toward humans, dismissing them as beneath her and failing to register the danger they pose, a miscalculation that ultimately gets her killed.

History

Linie was already alive before the Hero Party brought down the Demon King. In one clash with that party she watched Eisen fight, studying the flow of his mana and the shape of his movements closely enough to later reproduce them. She eventually fell in with Aura the Guillotine of the Seven Sages of Destruction, rising to serve as one of her personal executioners beside Draht and Lügner.

Posing as peace envoys under Lügner, Linie and Draht are dispatched to pressure Graf Granat into dropping the Flamme-cast barrier that has kept his city sealed against Aura. The ruse collapses once Granat refuses and, soon after, Linie can no longer feel Draht's mana, a sign that the imprisoned Frieren has slain him. With suspicion falling on the envoys, the demons turn to force, but an ambush by Stark and Fern wounds Lügner and drives them back. Knowing Fern could kill Linie outright, Lügner steers her instead toward a later duel with Stark.

Tracking the pair by Lügner's blood, Linie ambushes Stark and conjures an axe, drawing on her Imitation Spell, Erfassen, to wear the recorded techniques of Eisen, whose battle she had once witnessed. The spell lets her fashion weapons from mana and flawlessly copy the moves of anyone whose mana she has read, though it can never match the original's raw power and only manages one weapon at a time. Stark's inexperience and fear hand her the early advantage, yet he endures every blow; when she buries the axe in his flank, he answers with a Lightning Strike, the genuine form of the slash she could only mimic, and ends her. Beyond Erfassen, Linie is a sharp mana detector and can mask her own mana for ambushes, and she fights with real close-quarters strength, copying not just axe work but sword, spear, and knife styles as well.
