Lineal

Lineal wears her black hair long, reaching the small of her back, with her bangs swept to one side and the lower length worked into a loose, thick braid. For her reports to Serie she dresses in a flowing gray gown with white cuffed sleeves.

Little of Lineal's character is firmly known. Übel writes her off as an oddball after meeting her, and she does give off a scatterbrained air, content to while away whole stretches of time simply watching butterflies. She is no pushover in a clash, though, and she is plainly at odds with some of her colleagues, Sense above all. By Sense's read, Lineal loathes anything bothersome and will look out for herself the moment things turn dangerous.

Better than fifteen years ago Lineal earned her first-class certification and slipped into the Empire as a covert agent of the Continental Magic Association, returning to Äußerst only once every three years to file a report; on one such visit Übel stumbled across her idling away a day among garden butterflies. Her embedded position is sensitive enough that she draws scrutiny during national events and cannot roam freely, yet it has left her deeply versed in how the Empire operates from the inside.

She surfaces in the Foundation Festival plot as the source who warned the Association that conspirators meant to kill Serie at the Ball. Rather than risk exposure, she tucked a letter of further details into a storeroom in a chief retainer's manor, reasoning that the Magic Special Forces would be just as pinned down during the festivities as she was. When Übel and Land are seized, Falsch expects the development to spur her into action, though Sense is sure she will sit tight and protect herself first, vowing to tear her apart at their next meeting.

What is certain is that Lineal is formidable. Passing the exam at all marks her as capable, and more than a decade of unbroken espionage speaks to her skill at gathering secrets and dodging suspicion. She counts among the rare mages to have driven Serie to her knees in a sparring match, something even the venerable Lernen never managed, and Sense rates her the strongest opponent she knows when the fight is against other humans.
