Appearance

Edel has the slight frame of a young teenage girl, with cropped strawberry-blonde hair worn in a bob and curtain bangs, set above sleepy, drooping hazel eyes. For the exam she dons a white buttoned dress with short, puffed sleeves and tall black boots. When she scouts Weise with Lernen, she instead wears a cape-like coat over long trousers.

Personality

Under pressure Edel stays strikingly composed, holding her nerve against both Sense's duplicate in the exam and the demon Macht during the Golden Land expedition. Lernen rates her courage above his own, impressed that she manages to read Macht's memories at all. Away from a crisis she comes across as somewhat detached, grumbling about having to work when Lernen brings her a private request, and she has a bossy streak, barking orders at Blei and Dünste throughout the first trial.

History

During the first trial, Edel takes charge of her squad and parks them by a lake to wait for Stille, but once a rival team ices the water she fails to see that the creatures will now avoid it and orders her partners to melt it instead. Her group only bags a Stille in the closing hours, when one alights on the slumped Dünste. In the second trial she heads straight into the Ruins of the King's Tomb with Blei and Dünste. Cornered by a Spiegel's copy of Sense, she has the two raise a defensive sphere so she can lock eyes with the clone and try to seize its mind, only to discover it has none; badly hurt, she resigns and flees with her bottled golem, washing out of the exam.

Lernen later handpicks Edel for an expedition to Weise, the fortified city Macht turned to gold, hoping she can repair what he assumes is a faulty Stone Bracelet of Servitude. Studying a replica and then the site itself, she reads the memory of a former servant who watched the bracelet's binding and notes the order given was too vague to truly hold a demon; she also reasons that the theory of Glück enslaving Macht for riches makes no sense, since the gold cannot be refined. After crossing into the Golden Land, the pair are found by Macht, and as he assaults Lernen, Edel confirms the bracelet has no defect at all and that no fresh command can be added except by the one who first gave it. Slipping behind the demon, she lays a hand on him and draws out a hundred years of memories, an act that drains nearly all her strength. The two escape, and on the ride home she tells Lernen plainly that Denken left his decision far too late, a verdict he sadly accepts. Notably, Edel fights with hypnosis rather than force, has almost no combat ability of her own, and casts without the staff most mages rely on.
