NHN

NHN is a news broadcasting corporation operating out of Tokyo, anchored by on-air talent including Kiyomi Takada, Miho Sato, and Koki Tanakabara. Its slate of programs covers the current-events broadcast News7, Takada's personal show Today's Miss Takada, and Golden News. The network's significance comes from Teru Mikami's choice to route Kira's public voice through it, elevating Takada into the killer's chosen representative.

After Mikami kills the loud televangelist Hitoshi Demegawa and shuts down the Kira's Kingdom program, rival networks scramble to inherit the role, and Mikami hands it to NHN's Takada. The pick puzzles viewers, the Task Force included, since the network's Miho Sato had outpolled Takada in a popularity ranking. Sensing the link to Kira, Near plants Halle Lidner among the four bodyguards assigned to the anchor. Takada is tapped to host the station's year-end Pop Music Festival but withdraws at the last minute after the SPK takes Misa Amane into custody beforehand.

Weeks later, a crowd and paparazzi mob Takada outside the NHN offices when Matt sets off smoke grenades. In the confusion Halle hands the anchor to Mello, who slips his pursuers, and the two are soon killed with the notebook. Takada's bodyguards run Matt down at an intersection, and although he surrenders and offers information, they gun him down, with NHN broadcasting his death live and claiming his identity is unknown. Once Takada is gone, other outlets again vie to serve as Kira's next voice.

The network's faces include Kiyomi Takada, who joins straight out of To-Oh University and has her own show by twenty-four; the anchorwoman Miho Sato; and the anchorman Koki Tanakabara, who covers the Kira tape incident on Golden News. Across the live-action film series, NHN vanishes entirely, with Takada instead employed by Sakura TV.
