Aoga

A tall figure with a narrow, drawn-out face and small eyes, Aoga keeps his black hair cropped short. During his student days he wears the male uniform of the Shin'ō Academy with his sword slung across his back on a strap. The Hollow assault he barely lived through left a long scar down the left of his jaw that reaches his neck. Once he enters the Fourth Division he trades the uniform for the standard black robes and the unit's medical pack.

Aoga studied alongside Shūhei Hisagi and served as a senior mentor to younger students such as Izuru Kira, Momo Hinamori, and Renji Abarai. Alongside Hotaru Kanisawa and Hisagi, he took charge of guiding a class of academy trainees on a field exercise into the living world to practice performing konsō. The lesson turned to disaster when an enormous Hollow struck Kanisawa dead; Aoga rushed to avenge her and was gravely wounded before he could land a blow.

He pulled through, but the loss convinced him that battle was not his calling, and he transferred into the Fourth Division. Long afterward, during the lull between the Wandenreich's two assaults on the Seireitei, he returned to Kanisawa's grave and crossed paths there with Hisagi, who had come to mourn her as well.

As a member of the medically focused Fourth Division, Aoga is versed in healing Kidō and related restorative techniques. The release of his Zanpakutō has never been shown, and he has not attained Bankai.
